This has been a topic I've been pondering a lot lately and I'm curious of all your thoughts. Also, I'm referring to the abstract ideas, not necessarily specifically social collectivism or economic individualism, just the abstract concepts.

Personally, I probably dissent most people here in that I'm generally in favor of individualism in the majority of situations. I do, however, believe that collectives would be necessary to individualism, in that the collective exists for the sole purpose of serving and aiding the individuals within it and that participation within specific collectives should be completely and totally voluntary.

I believe that collectivism leads to greater individual freedom. Common ownership is far better than private ownership in terms of personal freedom

Common ownership is far better than private ownership in terms of personal freedom So wouldn't this ultimately boil down to collectivism for the sake of individualism? In this situation, at least as I interpret it, it would seem that individualism would still be placed in higher regard than total social unity.
